Update April 29, 2020

EDIT 10:31 am Well that didn’t take long.  See inserted Facebook post.  Maybe able to open Wednesday May 6.  A BIG MAYBE.  I’ll keep you posted.

Well once again it looks like my reopening date will be pushed back from Friday May 1 to…?  Possibly I might be able to open as late as Monday June 1.  Here are some images for you to read over and study along with me.  Click on the below images to read them more closely.

With the Governor’s executive order that was published yesterday Tuesday April 28, it looks like personal, close contact businesses will not be able to open until Saturday May 30.  However, as you see in the Facebook post from the state rep, it might be earlier.  The time stamp of that Facebook post is after the executive order came out yesterday.  It is vague, and it might not amount to anything.  Your guess is as good as mine.  One thing I do know is true, my guess that I would not be able to reopen Friday has come true.  I’m sorry that my soothsaying ability is on point.

This situation seems to be very fluid at the moment.  I will keep you all updated as soon as I get information about reopening.

I want to thank you all for the continued support that you have shown me and my family at this time.  Thank you all for the texts, phone calls, emails, gift card purchases, and product purchases. Please let me know if you need anything… other than the obvious.

I’ll be in touch.  Be good.

(EDIT 10:31 AM Wed April 29  I’ve been made aware of new developments.  Maybe opening Wednesday May 6.)

Looks like it will be a little while longer on the reopening date, as late as June 1.

Update April 23, 2020

I know that all of you are eager to book an appointment knowing that the stay at home order will be expiring May 1.  I am eager to have you back in my chair.  I want to wait a few more days until I open online booking back up.  I am a little reserved in thinking that the barbering industry will not be able to reopen on May 1.  The governor is supposed to be having a press conference today or tomorrow about which businesses he wants to reopen.  In a news conference yesterday, he said something along the lines of wanting businesses to really practice social distancing.  There is not much social distancing in barbering.  This is what has me concerned.

Then there is the mayor of Sumner County I have to be concerned with.  He may come out with an extended order to stay at home for Sumner County.  I do not have a reason to believe that he will do this, but I am cautious.  The owner of the salon suite that I rent from has been following the mayor’s lead and closed the building to businesses that operate in the salon suite.  The salon suite owner might continue do this if the mayor decides to extend Sumner County’s stay at home order.

I will be working longer hours when I open back up, for a temporary time.  I want everyone to have a spot as soon as possible.  I will be sending out an email, posting on this blog, and posting to my social sites as soon as I reopen online booking, so don’t worry.

Again, thank you for your eGift Card purchases, texts, calls, and emails through this difficult time.  It means the world to me and my family.

Be on the lookout for another blog post soon after the governor holds his press conference.  I will be watching closely.

Hopeful to get back to business Friday May 1, but I am still reserved to think that the barber industry will not be able to reopen then.

Update April 13, 2020

The Governor just announced that he will be extending his safer at home order, affecting non essential businesses like barbershops, through April 30.  That means, barring any other extensions, I will be able to reopen Friday, May 1.  I will keep online booking closed until a couple of days before, just in case he extends it further.

I want to thank everyone that has bought eGift cards.  You are making it possible for my family to get through this hardship.  Thank you very much.

I’m sorry that this keeps happening.  We will get through this.  You will have my work cut out for me when all this is over.

I have been thinking of how business will look when I get back.  I probably will wear a mask.  I probably will ask you to wait in your vehicle until I am finished with the client in the chair.  I probably will limit how many are in the shop at one time.  I might not be offering beard trims or shave services either.  Many questions that I will need to have answered and ready before business resumes.

Please be careful when you go out.  I want to see you back in the chair healthy and with too much hair!

“Barring any other extensions of the safer at home order, I will reopen Friday, May 1.

Update April 3, 2020

Due to Gov. Lee’s order for all non essential businesses to be closed through April 14, I will not open until Wednesday April 15.  Online booking has been disabled, and I will not open it back up until a couple of days before I get the go ahead to resume operations.  This way I will not have to call you if the order goes on even longer.  I will text or call you if you have an appointment before April 15.  I am eager to get back to cutting your hair as you are getting your haircut.  Hopefully not too much longer.

In other news, I am still working on the online store and all the things that go into running an e-commerce business.  If you need any hair grooming needs before I get that up and running, please send me an email at joel@mybarberjoel.com.

I look to give updates here on the blog at least every week, so be looking for those.  I will also post on Facebook and Instagram about the updates to the blog.
